Today, Enrique Peña Nieto tweeted that Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was caught after escaping through a well-ventilated tunnel on July 11. Though he didn’t provide too many details, EPN did thank the Gabinete de Seguridad del Gobierno de la República for their role.
CBS8 further reported that an anonymous source said that after a shootout with Mexican marines in Los Mochis, El Chapo was caught. Five people were killed, and one marine was injured. Six were arrested. They seized one handgun, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, eight long guns, and two armored vehicles.
The Mexican Navy said in a statement that the marines raided a home in Los Mochis after receiving a tip that Orso Iván Gastelum Cruz, of the Sinaloa cartel, was inside, according to Animal Politico.
