Late Monday night (August 29), Alessandra Rosaldo, the wife of actor Eugenio Derbez (CODA), released a statement explaining that Derbez would have to undergo surgery after having an accident a couple of days ago.

Rosaldo did not reveal the type of accident Derbez had, but said he was “fine” and described the injuries he sustained as “delicate.” She also said the operation he was having would be “very complicated but does not compromise his health.”

“The recovery process will be long and difficult,” Rosaldo said. “He will have to rest for several weeks and then undergo rehabilitation therapies.”

Rosaldo thanked fans and added: “I know that with the good energy that they will be sending us and with the favor of God, Eugenio will recover very soon.”

Actress Sandra Echeverría (María Félix: La Doña) commented on the post with the statement, “We love you dear Eugene! A lot of strength.” Actor Diego Boneta (Father of the Bride) posted three heart emojis to show his support.

Last week, it was announced that the second season of Derbez’s AppleTV+ comedy series Acapulco would debut on October 21, 2022. In the show, Derbez’s character Maximo Ramos, a successful mogul living in Malibu, narrates his personal story about working at a luxury resort as a teenager during the 1980s.

Earlier this year, Eugenio Derbez won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in the dramedy CODA, a film that would go on to win Best Picture at the 2022 Academy Awards. Derbez recently landed a pair of Imagen Award nominations for his performances in CODA and the Hulu dramedy The Valet.
