Evo Morales’ Shoe-Tying Bodyguard Makes Bolivians Think He’s No Longer Evo From the Block

A video of Bolivian President Evo Morales asking a bodyguard to tie his shoes has been making the rounds. Though you can see Morales pointing at his shoe and a man subsequently bending over to tie Morales’ shoe, the conversation can’t be heard. We definitely gave Morales the benefit of the doubt – bad back, extreme soreness from a hardcore workout session, T. Rex arms. Then, he opened his mouth. “In this case, I felt I was busy…I was greeting someone,” he said, according to La Tercera. “All of a sudden, I realized that my shoelace was untied, and someone noticed. I wanted to fix it but I was in the middle of a conversation and someone fixed it immediately.” Though there’s definitely some pointing going on, Morales maintains that he wanted to tie his own shoe but couldn’t.

For some, the shoe-tying incident wasn’t funny. To them, it offered proof that Morales, who came from humble beginnings, had changed. Twitter mostly had jokes. Check out some of them below:
