Could a little cumbia music be heard near the collectable toy displays next year?

Funko, the company behind those short, stubby pop culture figurines, might have plans to release one of Selena Quintanilla in 2021. According to an article published at News4SA, the NBC affiliate in San Antonio, a vinyl version of the “Queen of Tejano” is listed on the company’s upcoming toy lineup. When Remezcla reached out for confirmation or further details, Funko replied “Funko does not speculate nor comment on future product announcements.”

The only evidence so far is a blurry list apparently released by Funko. In the past, similar “leaked” lists have appeared on Reddit discussion boards detailing the company’s plans on future “Pop!” merchandise. Remezcla has reached out to Funko to confirm if the news is accurate but has not heard back yet.

From the blurry list, it looks like the potential Selena toy will be part of the company’s “Pop! Rocks” collection. It also reads that the toy will be dressed in a “burgundy outfit,” presumably the jumpsuit Selena made famous during a concert at the Astrodome in Houston in 1995.

Musicians already on the Funko toy roster include Britney Spears, Freddie Mercury, Johnny Cash, James Brown and Tupac.

In 2018, Funkoboss, an independent Funko Pop! collector who customizes Pop! figures, designed his own version of a Selena toy, which had his followers clamoring about where to purchase their own.

If the news is true, there’s no doubt Selena fans will buy out the entire lot faster than you can say, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” or “Como La Funko.”
