Funkshion Miami Breeds Latino Fashionistas

Miami’s beach-and-sandals style doesn’t translate well to the runway. The exception being when, once a year, Miami fashion meets function and the city welcomes a five-day fashion show whose moniker is more representative of the city’s literacy rate than of its fashion sense. Back for an astounding 15th year (other than World Music Conference and Ultra,  few events in Miami boast a shelf-life longer than a decade), Funkshion, occurring between October 20th-October 25th, introduces a slew of emerging designers and Spring/Summer 2011 collections from several fashion mainstays as well as over-the-top parties, which take place at two Miami Beach venues: the Setai Hotel and the Bass Museum. A full schedule of events and parties is available on www.Funkshion.com, with most events being free and open to the public.

We won’t bash Funkshion too much. Now that Gen Art‘s gone bankrupt, an elaborately produced runway show peddling mediocre clothing will be hard to come by. So bypass the Richie Rich spectacle, and obligatory Pamela Anderson cameo, and check out our picks for must-see shows featuring Latin designers:
