Gael Garcia Bernal + Diego Luna Producing Cesar Chavez Biopic Starring Rosario Dawson

Dude, like whoa…the Cesar Chavez biopic announced two years ago has a cast and is currently shooting in Sonora, Mexico. The cast is amazing: Michael Peña plays Chavez and film co-stars include John Malkovich, America Ferrera, Wes Bentley, Michael Cudlitz, Gabriel Mann, and our favorite, Rosario Dawson.
The production team is also filled with heavy hitters: Diego Luna is directing and producing. Bernal is co-producer (he will have a cameo appearance), and apparently, John Malkovich is co-producing, as well. Is it just me, or is the production team casi more “all-star” than the cast….
Que mas? The script is the work of Oscar-nominated writer Keir Pearson (Hotel Rwanda).
Most important is the fact that the desire to remember Cesar Chavez has brought together big industry Latinos and supporters on a project that will honor his legacy & lifetime spent fighting for workers rights. And it’s happening finally. Chido.

From the 1950s through 1993, when he died, Chavez worked as a community organizer and fought for improved working conditions for California farm workers. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers union. Chavez’s birthday, March 31, is celebrated as a state holiday in several states, including California and Texas, and he was awarded the U.S. Medal of Freedom posthumously in 1994. In 2006, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger inducted him into the state’s hall of fame.
We’re glad Chavez is going to get the biopic–the fame–he deserves. You know what they say, fame is but a fruit tree, that never grows until its stock is in the ground.
Fame is but a fruit tree
So very unsound
It can never flourish
‘til it’s stock is in the ground
So men of fame
Can never find a way
‘til time has flown
Far from their dying day
Fruit tree, fruit tree
No-one knows you but the rain and the air
Don’t you worry
They’ll stand and stare when you’re gone
Fruit tree, fruit tree
Open your eyes to another year
They’ll all know
That you were here when you’re gone
