Shakira’s name was trending on Twitter Thursday morning (June 2), but, unfortunately, it’s not because of her recent appearance on The Tonight Show or her new series Dancing with Myself.
Instead, there are rumors online that the Colombian singer is splitting up with her longtime boyfriend, Spanish professional footballer Gerard Piqué, because she allegedly caught him cheating on her with another woman.
At this point, the articles online are only speculation, but it is being reported that the couple is currently living separately because Piqué has been unfaithful. One of the first outlets to report the rumors was the video podcast Mamarazzis.
Hosts Lorena Vazquez and Laura Fa said that Piqué was allegedly having an affair with a 20-year-old woman, who is a student and event hostess in Barcelona. There are also rumors that Piqué cheated on Shakira with the mother of another footballer. The claims sparked countless comments online from people who were shocked at the story.
We’re still holding out hope that all this noise is just gossip and that Shakira and Piqué are just fine. The power couple has been in a relationship since 2011. They met when he appeared in her music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The couple has two children together.
In April, Shakira dropped her latest single, “Te Felicito,” with Rauw Alejandro. Remezcla called the song “a modernized funk moment” – one that demonstrates “even more of her music diversity.”
