Here’s a joke:
Question – How many years does it take for Disney animators to bring a master surrealist’s vision to life?
Answer – Fish.
This is Destino. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. If you have, watch it again. Happy Birthday, Salvador Dalí: I bet your celebration Upstairs is super creepy.
Production on this short began at Disney in 1945 as a collaboration between Walt Disney, Salvador Dalí, and storyboard artist John Hench. Production was halted for financial reasons – World War II ring a bell? – but then was revisited when work on Fantasia 2000 began and, voila, it premiered in 2003. A 58 year production.
It’s beautiful, and it’s very Dalí.
