Halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox (not the gym) lies February 2nd, the day we as a human race have figured for centuries was a predictor of weather to come. That’s why today, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of Winter, which is weird since, at least here in New York, it feels like Spring already.

In Mexico, the holiday is less furry. Día de la Candelaria is a religious holiday that marks the real end of Christmas, connected with the celebration of Three Kings Day – the ones who find regalitos inside their Rosca de Reyes have to host a party to celebrate the day, complete with tamales. There’s also a religious component – it’s the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, for Catholics – but really it’s all about the partying.

Anyone partying with tamales today?
