The Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show is coming, and it’s bringing an all-star cast to the stage. The cult classic musical, which is set to begin previews March 26, ahead of an April 23 opening night at Studio 54 will return with a bang, and some familiar faces.
Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) is set to play Eddie/Dr. Scott, while Golden Globe winner Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Pose) will play Columbia. Guillén is Mexican-American and Rodriguez is Afro-Latina of Puerto Rican descent. They will be joined by Luke Evans as Frank-N-Furter, Rachel Dratch as the Narrator, Andrew Durand as Brad, Amber Gray as Riff Raff, Stephanie Hsu as Janet, Juliette Lewis as Magenta, and Josh Rivera as Rocky.
Guillén and Rodriguez aren’t the only Latine talent in the show. They’ll also be joined by Josh Rivera, who is Puerto Rican, and Andres Quintero, who is Venezuelan. Rounding up the cast are Renée Albulario, Anania, Boy Radio, Caleb Quezon, Larkin Reilly, Paul Soileau, and John Yi.
The show is a limited engagement, set to run through June 21. Nine different actors will be making their Broadway debut, including Guillen, Rodriguez, and Rivera.
Tony-winning director Sam Pinkleton said about the show, “I’m giddy to crack this untamable classic open with the razor-sharp Luke Evans at the center. And I hope to do at Studio 54 what The Rocky Horror Show has done for people around the world for decades—open a dimension to another possible reality.”
Creator Richard O’Brien previously said, “It is music to my ears to hear that a cast of very fine actors is on its way to NYC in order to play let’s dress-up and make-believe, sing and dance and uplift the hearts of all those who enjoy the gift of free-thinking and the pleasure of love. Break out the fishnets and let’s have a party.”
The Rocky Horror Show originally premiered in London in 1973. It ran for 2,960 performances, closing in 1980. The musical follows a couple, Brad and Janet, who end up at a spooky house on a rainy night and become intrigued by the people who live within. The film adaptation, called
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring creator O’Brian and Tim Curry officially catapulted the musical into cult classic.
