“Cookie’s a boss, doesn’t take shit, doesn’t comply with any sort of male rules,” Hood By Air’s Shayne Oliver told Vogue about the character that helped propel Empire into an unprecedented television success. Portrayed by Taraji P. Henson, Cookie Lyon has become one of Oliver’s inspirations; in February, the HBA runway was enhanced by clips of Cookie’s dialogue, as models walked in furs and other winter gear to the sound of Lyon declaring “I want to show you a faggot can run this company.”
So it makes sense that Oliver was tapped by Fox to create an official Empire-brand collection. The pieces debuted on Vogue yesterday, and are on sale today.
The collection offers a variety of items, from tees to dresses to a pillow backpack, which is legit worth investing in because of its multipurpose uses. Cookie (duh), Jamal, and Hakeem are splashed on different pieces. Oliver also added a little bit of his childhood in Queens into the mix.
Because Oliver hit it off so well with Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, Oliver teased that there might be a second collection coming. In the meantime, check out part of the collection below and cop it here.
