Should a movie like the 1997 comedy B.A.P.S. get a reboot? Apparently, if it were up to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, the answer would be a resounding yes – and they should star in it.

According to original director Robert Townsend, the “WAP” rappers have shown an interest in remaking the movie. “There’s people that love, love, love [B.A.P.S.] and some people that didn’t get it,” Townsend told Slash Film. “And those that love it — like you love it and you get it. I’ve had people go, ‘Hey, we want to do a remake.’ Everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B is like, ‘Could we do…’ I mean, it’s like, I don’t know.”

B.A.P.S. stars Halle Berry and the late Natalie Desselle-Reid as Nisi and Mickey, two friends who work at a soul food diner in Georgia and dream of one day managing their own combination hair salon/soul food restaurant. Nisi and Mickey get caught up in a scam where they attempt to rip off an aging millionaire but change their mind and become his friends. The millionaire calls them his “B.A.P.S.,” which is short for Black American Princesses.

So, is Townsend interested in making another B.A.P.S.? Probably not, especially since Desselle-Reid died in 2020. “It’s so funny because people want a sequel to that, and … I don’t know,” he said. “And then Natalie passed away. But I would love to do a Criterion [Collection] on B.A.P.S. I really would.”

If Townsend ever changes his mind, at least he knows Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion can pull off Nisi and Mickey’s updos.
