Create & Cultivate, an online platform where women can network across all types of professional industries, will hold its digital gala on Jan. 28 to honor the 100 women it has named as the “trailblazers who are making moves and redefining the future of the workplace.”
Latinas on this year’s list include Jessica Alba, actress and founder of organic products line the Honest Company; Bethany Mota, founder of jewelry line Atom & Matter; Julissa Prado, founder of hair product company Rizos Curls; and Dany Garcia, owner of the XFL football league, chairwoman and CEO of the Garcia Companies and co-founder of Seven Bucks Companies, a production company she runs with her ex-husband and action star Dwayne Johnson.
Alba, who is known in Hollywood for movies like Fantastic Four and Sin City, started her company when she had her first baby and noticed all the harmful chemicals that were in everyday products like laundry detergent. She says there are plenty of challenges that come with starting a business, especially for minority women with no business experience like her.
“I continued to navigate through the challenges and self-doubt by listening, learning and trusting myself on what matters most,” Alba told Create & Cultivate. “Trust your gut, and if you believe in your idea, go for it.”
For Garcia, developing a passion for business started at an early age with parents who instilled the kind of work ethic she would need to climb the corporate ladder. She considers herself a student of the “University of Confidence.”
“I think understanding that confidence can be nurtured is important, just as it’s vital to know that confidence is a requirement to achieve great things,” Garcia told Create & Cultivate. “I would encourage all women to enroll themselves in their own ‘University of Confidence,’ and make cultivating themselves and their mindset a priority.”
