J.Lo has long been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2017, the singer made headlines when she celebrated her sister’s child using gender-neutral pronouns because that’s just who she is. She did it again, this time with one of her twins, Emme. And the moment was captured on video and has gone viral as another moment of celebration during Pride Month.

During a recent concert, J.Lo addressed the audience and hyped up a special appearance by someone. She spoke in gender neutral terms about how the person was very busy and costs her a lot of money.

“They are very, very busy, booked and pricey,” J.Lo told the crowd. “They cost me when they come out. But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me.”

People on social media are praising her handling of the gender-neutral pronouns for her child. After all, it’s a sweet moment that the singer let the world experience with her. Seeing a mother fully embrace their child and their journey in defining their identity is something more of us should experience in our own lives.

So, thank you, J.Lo. It is refreshing to see a Latine superstar bucking the archaic and hurtful ideas that have permeated our community by using pronouns. She is using her platform to spread a message of acceptance and love to her fans and it gives LGBTQ+ Latine people everywhere another beacon of light and hope. And in a culture rife with homophobia and hostility towards LGBTQ+ people, J.Lo’s brief and touching moment with their child is an example of how you can love your family completely.
