Before Her ‘In Living Color’ Debut, JLo Was Kerry Washington’s Dance Teacher

Though the leading roles in Save the Last Dance went to Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas, Kerry Washington’s dance skills deserved more screen time. On Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon complimented the Scandal star’s dancing, which is when she revealed that she’s taken lessons since her childhood.

“I used to go initially just for candy that they gave out at the end of class,” she said, adding that eventually she became more serious about it. “I had this very inspiring teacher named Larry Maldonado. For anybody in my neighborhood in the Bronx, he was our role model. And he had an awesome substitute teacher named Jennifer, who would sometimes step in and teach. But then she left to move to LA and be on In Living Color.”

Fallon freaked out when he finally pieced together that Kerry’s Jennifer is the world’s J.Lo. And then Kerry went on to call herself Kerry from the Block. Check out the interview above, and then check out J.Lo’s first In Living Color appearance below:
