As Mexico continues it long road to recovery, New York’s best Mexican chefs and mixologists have come together to host a fundraising dinner in New York City. On September 19, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico. The natural disaster came just weeks after another earthquake devastated the country. The country had not yet fully recuperated when it was dealt this blow. The September 19 earthquake killed 369 and displaced thousands, according to Reuters. The epicenter was near Raboso, a town in the state of Puebla, but could be felt 76 miles away in Mexico City.

Nearly a month has passed since the tragic event, and Mexico still needs our help. That’s why on Friday, October 13, a group of Mexico’s most talented chefs are coming together to raise money for the country’s schools. 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward the Global School Spirit. “We are a group of parents, businessmen, children, and young Mexicans studying abroad, worried about the future of our country,” according to the Global School Spirit website. “Today we are promoting Global School Spirit to help with the rebuilding and reconstruction of schools, and replacement of school equipment damaged by the earthquakes that hit us in September 2017. This initiative adds to – and honors – the efforts and solidarity shown by our society.” Additionally, a group of Mexican sponsors – led by Fundación Kaluz – will match every dollar with two extra dollars.

If you’re interested in eating delicious food (octopus tostada, duck confit tacos, paletas, and more) and joining la Newyorkina, Mezcal de Leyanda, La Palapa, and more in supporting Mexico, stop by the Remezcla Headquarters on Friday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. A minimum $100 donation is necessary for entry. Purchase your tickets before the event here (you’ll need proof of receipt to get in), and get the latest updates here.
