Power-tripping bouncers at a Midtown haunt like LQ is not how we envisioned Thursday night with Julieta Venegas. Pre-show, the crowd suffered through a three hour DJ set peppered with Mana/Tiesto mash-ups. It all made for a strange Ibiza-meets-Jersey-Shore vibe, except no one was dancing.
By the time the very adorable (and very pregnant) Julieta hit the stage, there was a sense of relief. But the sound system did her no justice, and some were tempted to say, “que lastima, pero me voy” before she even got through the first track.
Julieta went on to sing some oldies but goodies, and a few tracks off her new album, Otra Cosa. But, in the end, the audience left wishing somebody had gotten it right, so they hadn’t done Julieta so wrong.
