Karol G is not here for fake videos and she is making it known. The singer took aim at a recent viral video that purportedly showed her calling for people to vote for Gustavo Petro, a candidate for the presidency in Colombia. The video used Karol G’s image to try to motivate and turn out voters for Petro and she is not impressed.

The video quickly blew up as Colombians are gearing up for a new election and Petro is running to be the first left-wing president of the South American nation. As the country gets ready to vote, candidates are doing everything they can to get the votes they want. Hence the viral video using Karol G’s image to push for Petro.

It’s clear that the person singing in the video isn’t Karol G. We all know her voice and fans were not impressed by the attempt to make Karol G an advocate for Petro. The song, calling for people to vote for Petro, is to the tune of MAMII and was originally shared by senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti.

Petro’s campaign team was quick to share the video to his followers and supporters and that’s when Karol G’s team stepped in to end the video’s reign.

“Obviously, the singer is not Karol G,” a spokesperson for Karol G said, according to El Tiempo. “She has nothing to do with the video and we directly ask Senator Roy Barreras to take it down, for using the image of the artist without authorization.”

As the world becomes more and more integrated into the digital space, artists have found themselves the victims of deep fakes. Their images are often used to promote products, politicians, and drama without their knowledge. Karol G’s team is taking a stand and shutting it down.
