On Sunday, Los Angeles-based brand Kids of Immigrants (KOI) will host their annual LOVE day celebration as they always do, except this time they’re going virtual.
KOI has blended the worlds of fashion and community awareness since its inception in 2016. Founded by designers Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis, the brand was started as a platform to express their passion to create and to empower love. As first-generation Americans, the designers have made it a point to drive home the idea of unity and strength amongst immigrant communities over the past four years.
To honor the brand’s anniversary and give back to the community it has cultivated, KOI hosts what they call a LOVE day celebration every year. The all-day event includes food, drinks, music and more every May.
However due to COVID-19, the LA staple has shifted to a virtual experience this year.
The Kids of Immigrants team has lived up to its mission statement by doing the absolute best they can with what they have during this team. LOVE Day will go on by way of Zoom with a 3-hour virtual experience incumbent of fashion, music and salsa dancing (yes salsa dancing).
The virtual event will kick off with dancing lessons from the New York-based Salsa Project—a collective dedicated to keeping Salsa dance culture alive for future generations. Consider it the perfect opportunity to brush up on your dance skills from wherever you choose to quarantine. From there, the party will be handed off to some of the best DJ’s on both coasts—headlined by Ugly Primo and Andres Uribe of Soulection.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a true KOI party without a product and a cause. The focal point of the entire event is their partnership with No Us Without You—a charity organization dedicated to providing resources to undocumented residents across the U.S. Kids of Immigrants has released an exclusive LOVE Day tee (pictured below) to benefit the organization available now via their online shop.
