Antulio “Kobbo” Santarrosa, known better as the gossip puppet La Comay, is being condemned in Puerto Rico for sexualizing an underage girl. La Comay is no stranger to scrutiny. The show has been called out for homophobic and racist commentary. Here’s what we know so far.
The puppeteer is under fire for sharing a sexualized photo of the 10-year-old daughter of governor candidate Alexandra Lúgaroo. The Movement Victoria Ciudadana politician says she will defend her daughter “to the last consequences” and that the program broadcasts “violence against women, and now against our girls.”
A group of protestors gathered outside Mega TV, which airs La Comay, with shouts of “the rapist is you” and calling Santarrosa a pedophile. The puppeteer was joined by Rocky The Kid on the Monday program of La Comay and declared “No one is going to shut us up, we are not afraid.” The Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS), which owns the Mega TV channel, hasn’t released an official statement on the controversy.
Bad Bunny has spoken out against the use of the girl’s image to attack the MVC governor candidate. The singer has threatened to take his music off of SBS stations if they don’t cancel the gossip show as a result of the scandal. Bad Bunny used to be a supporter of La Comay and even featured the act in his concerts in the past.
He took his now disapproval of Santarrosa to Twitter. “FIRST I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR !! I DON’T BRING THE COMAY BACK !! I DON’T PRODUCE YOUR PROGRAM !! I PAID TO USE THE DOLL WITHOUT YEARS OF USE FOR A 60 SECOND AD !! WITHOUT KNOWING OR IMAGINING THAT I WAS RETURNING! DO NOT ASSOCIATE ME WITH THE GARBAGE THAT YOU SAY IN YOUR PROGRAM !! “ Bad Bunny Tweeted. “THE LA COMAY PROGRAM HAS HURT A LOT OF PEOPLE, FAMILIES, SECTORS, BUT PLAYING WITH THE SAFETY AND MENTAL HEALTH OF A GIRL !! FOR WANTING TO HURT A WOMAN !! JUST BECAUSE OF A HARMFUL POLITICAL AGENDA !! RAYA, IF HE CREATED A NEW ONE AND HAPPENED IT AGAIN!”
