Halloween is slowly approaching, and here at Remezcla, we can’t stop talking about the tales and legends that our abuelas and tias used to tell us to make sure we stopped acting up. Ask any Latino kid, and one of the most frightening stories is of La Llorona, and for good reason. A woman drowns her children for the love of a man, and when he rejects her, she kills herself. Lo and behold, she cannot pass into the afterlife without finding her children’s bodies, and unluckily for us, she now wanders the Earth snatching our children up for all eternity whilst weeping.

Miss Llorona’s been creepin’ for over 500 years and she still knows how to stay on top of her game (even American Apparel gave her a shout out.) Just yesterday, NBC announced that they will partner with Telemundo, Mun2 and Universal Studios Hollywood, to bring the story of La Llorona to their hit show “Grimm,” about a detective who must protect the world from supernatural forces. The episode will feature Kate del Castillo of Telemundo’s “La Reina del Sur”, as detective Valentina Espinoza, who joins the Grimm team to find out the truth behind the missing children on Halloween night. The episode will be broadcast in Spanish on October 26th on Telemundo and Mun2 and in English on NBC on the 27th.

If this episode of Grimm isn’t enough to satisfy your thirst for horror, Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood is featuring La Llorona: Cazadora de Niños (Weeping Woman: The Child Hunter) maze. Along with horrifying visuals, the haunted house has enlisted Latino celebs, such as Wilmer Valderrama, Kate del Castillo and Luis Cruz, for a series of bilingual video diaries about their memories of the myth. Okay, just imagine for a minute the thought of being trapped in a maze while LA LLORONA weeps and screams at you like a wild banshee with her bloodshot eyes . As you can tell, i’m not a fan of either enclosed spaces or La Llorona, so if you’re anything like me, the show might just be more than enough to handle.

At any rate, you better hide your kids, hide your wives , and hide your husbands too cause she’s snatching everybody out there. Sorry, I had to.
