Pedro Cruz – who goes by the alter ego Flakoveli – is a self-taught photographer raised in Boston, MA. On Saturday, he hit the streets of downtown Boston to capture the overwhelming response to a planned “free speech” rally organized by a group of right-wing activists.

“News spread of a ‘Free Speech’ rally taking place in Boston Common on Saturday, August 19th,” Cruz wrote on his blog. “Without hesitation, Bostonians responded by launching a counter-protest. Being a Latino photographer, I felt a moral obligation to document the events taking place. I walked around for almost 5 hours, capturing all that I could see. This collection is more or less my way of contributing to history. The fight is far from over.”
