This week, as Emely Paula Medina worked her shift at Liquiteria, Lorde strolled in and ordered a Blue Velvet smoothie (packed with blueberries, coconut butter, acai, vanilla whey protein, almond butter, coconut sugar, and vanilla almond milk – if you want to know what kind of smoothies Lorde likes). Wanting to capture this chance encounter, Emely recorded a short video for her Twitter account. “This is my first smoothie to a famous person,” the Dominican American woman says as she turns the camera. “We got Lorde in the house today. She had a Blue Velvet. I’m shook.”
The short interaction was pretty adorable. Lorde laughed as Emely slightly geeked out.
For Emely, that likely would have been a satisfying ending to meeting Lorde. Instead, that same day the singer DMed the University of Tampa student and invited her to Governors Ball – which takes place this weekend. Emely’s initial reaction was disbelief. “I was gonna ask u in the store if u wanted to come but I got shy!” Lorde responded. “To celebrate ur new job :-)”
Needless to say, Emely and her best friend have plans this weekend, and they’re better than yours.
