During an interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, Senator Marco Rubio said that “the stigma of UFOs” should not keep the U.S. government from “seriously investigating” the strange objects many military pilots have seen over the years.

Rubio’s statement comes before a non-classified report is scheduled to be released by the Pentagon and Director of National Intelligence that includes a “detailed analysis of unidentified aerial phenomena data” collected by the Office of Naval Intelligence and the FBI. The report is due on June 25.

“Men and women we have entrusted with the defense of our country are reporting encounters with unidentified aircraft with superior capabilities,” Rubio said in a statement to the Tampa Bay Times. “The forthcoming report is one step in that process, but it will not be the last.”

While there are plenty of people who believe some of the UFOs could be more than just weather balloons or drones, especially because of the way some of them seem to defy typical aerial movements, Rubio got jabbed on social media for his take on the subject.

Some wondered why he was taking such an interest in UFOs and not focused on other pressing issues that are currently affecting Americans.

Even UFO enthusiasts were less enthusiastic about possible objects from other planets when they found out the Florida politician was part of the story.

Others warned Rubio that he should forget about any little green men from galaxies far, far away and look at his own party if he wants to see what an “imminent threat” to America looks like.

“Anything that enters an airspace that’s not supposed to be there is a threat,” Rubio told 60 Minutes. “The public deserves to know as much as possible about it.”

We guess we’ll keep laughing at Rubio till that report comes out on June 25 letting us know that Earth is probably going to be invaded sometime in 2021. Hey, at least when they say, “Take us to your leader,” we don’t have to introduce them to Trump, amirite?
