- The U.S. recorded its highest single-day death tally as more than 2,800 COVID-19 deaths were recorded on Wednesday. Health care officials have continued to warn that their staff and facilities are struggling to keep up with a surge of patients that could overwhelm hospital systems. [CNN]
- Trump made a baffling 46-minute speech through Facebook on Wednesday, repeating his false claims about voter fraud and insisting without evidence that the election was “rigged” to favor Joe Biden. The speech came the day after his own Attorney General William Barr said the Justice Department found no evidence of fraud affecting the outcome of the election. [NYT]
- Eight immigrants being held at Bergen County Jail in New Jersey are participating in a hunger strike to protest conditions at the facility. They’re reportedly on the 18th day of the strike and demanding to be released. [HuffPo]
- Rep. Maxine Waters announced that she plans to formally request U.S. Attorney General William Barr to investigate the death of18-year-old Andres Guardado, who was killed by a sheriff’s deputy near Gardena, as a civil rights violation. The deputy who killed Guardado did not attend a recent court proceeding looking into the death, saying he was out of town. His partner has also indicated he will not testify. [NBC Los Angeles]
- AOC took to Twitter and set up an argument that counter’s Obama’s recent remarks about the slogan “defund the police.” Without naming the former president, she said, “The thing that critics of activists don’t get is that they tried playing the “polite language” policy game and all it did was make them easier to ignore.” [BI]
- Selena Gomez said in a recent interview that she experienced “a sliver” of racism after seeing the discrimination her father, who is of Mexcian descent witnessed.
