Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt Relinquishes Title — Here’s Why

Noelia Voigt has unexpectedly resigned from her Miss USA 2023 crown. On May 6, the Venezuelan-American model and beauty pageant titleholder released a press statement stepping down from her title, citing mental health reasons.

She starts her resignation statement by saying: “In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health. As individuals, we grow through experiencing different things in life that lead us to learning more about ourselves. My journey as Miss USA has been incredibly meaningful, representing Utah with pride, and later the USA at Miss Universe. Sadly, I have made the very tough decision to resign from the title of Miss USA 2023.”

In her statement, Voigt thanks her support system, including her fans, family, coaches, and state and local directors. She mentions her favorite part of being Miss USA was working with the nonprofit organization and charity Smile Train; and as an advocate for anti-bullying and dating violence and prevention, immigration rights and reform, and more. She also points out how she loved to “shedding light” on her roots as the first Venezuelan-American woman to win the annual American beauty pageant.

She closed the statement by saying: “Deep down I know that this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me, and my hope is that I continue to inspire others to remain steadfast, prioritize your mental health, advocate for yourself and others by using your voice, and never be afraid of what the future holds, even if it feels uncertain.”

Moreover, part of the caption on her press statement reads: “Never compromise your physical and mental well-being. Our health is our wealth.”

Other Miss USA winners have shown public support. “Let’s support our queen @noeliavoigt (I wish we had a photo together) Being #MissUSA what is one of the most incredible experiences of my life,” Miss USA 2014 winner Nia Sanchez wrote. “I can only imagine what is going on with Noelia get to the point that she needs to resign as Miss Usa. Sending lots of love to our Latina queen and I wish her so much luck on her next endeavor.”

As far as what comes next, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant organizers thanked and wished Voigt the best in her next chapter. “We respect and support Noelia’s decision to step down from her duties. The well-being of our titleholders is a top priority, and we understand her need to prioritize herself at this time,” the organizations wrote online. “We are currently reviewing plans for the transition of responsibilities to a successor, and we will soon announce the crowning of the new Miss USA.”
