During last night’s Miss Universe 2012 competition, judge Diego Boneta asked competitor Miss Venezuela Irene Sofia Esser Quintero “If you could make a new law, what would it be and explain why?” Annnnnd this is what she said:

What you just witnessed is the beauty of pure, unbridled confidence.  Ol’ girl needed a translator to even understand the question, but when it came time to answer she thought to herself “I got this.” Listen to her conviction at 0:30 on “I think that WE should have a straight way to go.” She said that like she was Barack Obama talking about the path toward progress. Even at 0:38 when she briefly hesitated because she realized she was in over her head with the English, she just kept it moving. On to what? The subject of surfing, natch.

Based on her triumphant “Thank you Vegas!” at the conclusion of this answer, I’m assuming we missed what would have probably been an insightful and poetic analogy about waves/legislation in Spanish. Anyway, no matter how ridiculous her answer sounded, it’s no where near as bad as Lauren Caitlin Upton (aka Miss Teen USA South Carolina 2007), answering this pageant question in her native tongue:
