After returning to Puerto Rico, Mónica Puig wrote an open letter to her fellow Puerto Ricans. Check out the letter in English (translated by us) and Spanish below:
To the people of Puerto Rico,
There are no words to express the gratitude I feel for the extraordinary welcome and love you have given me the past few days. I feel extremely happy and blessed to have felt so much love from you – it means the world to me.
This medal is for you – you, the people of Puerto Rico – whom I love so much and whom I’m genuinely fond of.
I showed during the Olympics that nothing is impossible. When you work hard, stay positive, and never give up, everything is possible. And this doesn’t just apply to sports, but in all areas of life.
I know that we, as Puerto Ricans, have been through a lot. But together we’ll return to glory. Together we can do whatever.
Thank you for the incredible caravan and welcome on Tuesday, not just for me, but also for the entire delegation. We are eternally grateful.
With love,

Estamos eternamente agradecidos.
Con amor,
Mónica
