Obama Nominates Gay Latina Judge To U.S. District Court In Pennsylvania

Well, here’s something new to throw the right-wing zealots into another shitstorm. On November 27th, President Barack Obama nominated two Latino judges to the U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania: Luis Felipe Restrepo and Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro. If Alejandro’s nomination is approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, she will become the first openly gay Latina to serve on a federal bench. HAYOOO.

The president nominated Alejandro, a native of Puerto Rico, based on the recommendation of Senator Bob Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania. She moved to Philadelphia in 1975 after graduating from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law and is currently a judge on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas, a seat she’s held since 1991. Oh, and she also happens to be the first Latina to hold a seat in that court too.

Perhaps one day there’ll be an empty seat for her to fill right next to fellow boricua Sonia Sotomayor at the Supreme Court.
