Peru, Chile, Ecuador & Others Win at 2021 World Travel Awards

Central and South American countries were well-represented when the 2021 annual World Travel Awards (WTA) were announced recently. 

Established in 1993, WTA recognizes excellence in travel and tourism.

This year marks the 28th edition of the awards, which gives countries accolades for their airlines, hotels, resorts, tourist attractions, and many other services and features.

The top awards are given in the World category since it includes all countries vying to be named the best in world in dozens of categories. This year, the World winners included Chile (World’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination) and Ecuador (World’s Leading Green Destination).

Peru won three awards: World’s Leading Culinary Destination, World’s Leading Cultural Destination, and World’s Leading Tourist Attraction (Machu Picchu).

“Our country won three awards at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2021, which continue to position Peru as one of the most attractive countries worldwide,” the official handle for the country tweeted.

Along with the countries themselves, businesses in Latin American countries were recognized for their services. They include Explora Valle Sagrado in Peru (World’s Leading Adventure Hotel); Four Seasons Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico (World’s Leading Beach Family Resort); Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa at the Islands of Loreto, Mexico (World’s Leading Family Resort); Gaia Hotel & Reserve in Costa Rica (World’s Leading Green Hotel); Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in the Dominican Republic (World’s Leading Luxury Sports & Villa Resort); and One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico (World’s Most Romantic Resort).
