Poderistas, a coalition of Latina activists working to inspire others to leverage their power at home, at work, and in their community, will host its second annual Latinas Make a Difference Summit from September 17-19.
This year’s virtual summit will feature appearances by Latina talent like actresses Eva Longoria (Overboard) and America Ferrera (TV’s Superstore), political strategist Ana Navarro, journalist Soledad O’Brien, and others. It will be hosted by Emmy-winning TV personality Lilliana Vazquez.
“Poderistas’ Latinas Make a Difference Summit [is] an event that not only celebrates our innate power as Latinas, but that challenges us to take it one step further so that we can harness that power into action,” Vazquez said in a statement.
Poderistas launched in August 2020, although “seeds…were planted” during the 2018 midterm elections when Longoria, Ferrera, and other social and political activists went out into our communities to help get voters to the polls.
“We are so proud of what we’ve accomplished in just one year, and are eager to bring our community together again,” Ferrera said in a statement. “Our goal has always been to help Latinas build power, shift how we are seen, and even transform how we see ourselves.”
At the summit, participants will get an opportunity to attend social justice-themed panel discussions, participate in workshops, experience spoken word readings, and join in on some fitness and wellness sessions.
“Our Poderistas community has grown so quickly over the past year, with Latinas from across the country joining together to share their diverse stories and experiences, as well as to harness our unique poder,” Longoria said in a statement.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to tell Poderistas about their own diverse stories before the conference begins. Share your “Poder in Action” moment on video here and the organization might use it during their virtual summit.
