Perez Hilton recently joined Gloria Estefan, Emily Estefan, and Lili Estefan on the Red Table Talk: The Estefans to discuss cancel culture. The Estefans agree that Hilton is one of the original cancel culture advocates when he would call for boycotts of celebrities, like Britney Spears and Linsday Lohan.

During his time at the table, Hilton talked openly about being bullied and outed, creating a feeling that he could do the same. The topic eventually focused solely on Hilton’s role in outing celebrities before they were ready to come out themselves, specifically former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui.

Hilton and Emily’s exchange got heated as she called out the bloggers upsetting actions. And Hilton rebuffed any claims that he did something wrong by saying, “I don’t see myself as outing her.” The exchange continued with Emily telling Hilton that the leak was something Jauregui never intended to get out.

Things got especially tense when Hilton brushed off Emily’s concerns and said, “For, especially young women, sexuality is so fluid.” His belief was grounded in this skewed and derogatory train of thought that intimate relationships between women are just a phase instead of a grounded and real part of women’s sexual identities.

Emily really landed the killing blow when she told Hilton, “That is so hurtful. Men and a lot of people in society will look at two women together and they don’t legitimize our relationships because they’re like, ‘Oh, girls make out with girls. It’s just a college phase. Oh yeah! Girls together are hot.’ Which is what you’re doing right now.”

Hilton tried to make another excuse but Emily said, “You’re a man. You’re not a woman. You can’t speak to a woman’s experience. That’s not fair.”

Just to be clear, outing someone is never the right thing to do. There are no excuses and LGBTQ+ people deserve the courtesy and respect to choose the moment when they come out. Perez Hilton is not and will never be that person to make the decisions for others in matters such as these.
