It’s Mariachis, it’s hip-hop, it’s salsa, it’s anything Latino under the Chicago sun. With a line-up that includes over 25 different acts from all over the country and Latin America, we figured you could use some Remezcla taste-testing for this weekend’s Viva Chicago music fest in Grant Park.
Saturday:
Azul de Noche: A jewel of local Chicago music, they make the best of the local blues influence and mix it with Latino sounds. Its an early show well worth your time (10:45am)
2012: Veterans of the local scene, this band loves to rock out with original jams (1:45pm)
Don Tetto: This Latin Alternative rockero band has come a long way from a battle of the bands in their native Colombia, definitely one of the highlights of the festival (4:45pm)
The DEY: This is NYC giving Chicago some love, this trio is fire with its Latino hip-hop beats and socially conscious lyrics (6:25pm)
Sunday:
Son de la Habana: One of Chicago’s best Cuban Jazz ensembles, complete with a 10-piece band they are masters of all things samba, mambo and merengue (12:20pm)
Fobia: Pioneers of Mexican Rock, after canceling a show in Chicago last year catch them live this time for free! (6:00pm)
Los Lobos: The festival closes with this ancient Tex-Mex/American Rock band (8:10pm)
