Ricky Martin and his husband Jwan Yosef are getting a divorce after six years of marriage. The couple announced their decision to split on social media and with People magazine.

“We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years,” Martin and Yosef said in a joint statement.

“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.”

Martin and Yosef share two children: daughter Lucia, born in 2018, and son Renn, born in 2019. Martin also has twin teenage sons, Matteo and Valentino.

The former couple met on Instagram in 2015 and began dating when they met in London after six months. “When I got out of the car and I saw him, I said, ‘Whoa. Wait a minute, I think this is the man of my life and I think I am going to marry him,’” Martin told Out magazine in 2021.

They went public with their relationship when they attended the amFAR Inspiration Gala together in 2016. They announced their engagement that same year and were married in 2018.

Last year, Ricky Martin discussed the negative comments he receives whenever he posts LGBTQ+ content on his social media and how he loses followers because of it. “Losing followers is the least I care about, of course, what I read and perceive, it’s very strong,” he said. “That’s why I fight for the day to come when there is no need to say anything else, just exist and feel proud of who we are.”
