The mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Juan de los Santos, 45, was fatally shot in his office today. The suspect, Luis Esmerlin Féliz Féliz, arrived at the Federación Dominican de Municipios to denounce the mayor, who is also the owner of Juancito Sport, for taking legal action against him after Esmerlin was unable to pay off his debt, according to Diario Libre.

Esmerlin also shot and killed a security guard named Archie de Jesús Medina, 34. Eyewitnesses report that Esmerlin committed suicide shortly thereafter.
While details continue to pour in, Diario Libre reported that before he was killed, de los Santos went to his children’s school to celebrate Christmas with them. “Spending the last day of classes with my two little ones with their classmates celebrating Christmas in school,” he said on Facebook.
