Hooked on the East Village and the LES

____________________________

The EV and LES are the two youngest and most alive neighborhoods of Nueva Yolk (and fun, if you ask us). Any block below 14th street on the east side promises a treasure chest’s worth of cool venues, one-of-a-kind boutiques, and great bars, each with its own theme. You could spend a lifetime discovering the people and places of the LES, not to mention the different array of smoke shops and sex stores on St. Mark’s. As precious as a New Yorker’s time is, however, we’ve mapped out a manageable route that you can complete in just one day. Get a taste of the LES, or, if you’re a neighborhood regular, explore some of the places that may have slipped under your radar.

Making Your Way South

____________________________

1. Begin your tour with brunch, that way you’ll have energy for everything awaiting you. We suggest Hecho en Dumbo. The restaurant had its beginning in 2007 as a pop-up operation in Dumbo, and was so successful it moved to the Bowery last year. Chef Danny Mena does a stellar job of easing patrons past stereotypical representations of Mexican cuisine, and after unos huevos divorciados o unas enmoladas de pato, even the most skeptical customer leaves enthralled. Pair brunch with a couple Flor Moradas –vodka , Cointreau, lime juice, and house-made agua de Jamaica cocktails that come at an extra 20% off with SCVNGR. For a budget option, make your way to MARK, a burger, beer, and wine bar that would be right at home on some cozy street in Amsterdam. If you check in with SCVNGR, $10 buy you two sliders, a beer, and a pecan pie.

2. Now that you’re well fed (y posiblemente un poco pica’o), head on down to La Sirena on E 3rd for some curious Mexican crafts and clothing. Si algo te pica el ojo, SCVNGR could get you up to 10% off. Another spot where you enjoy the same discount is The Reed Space, which offers a more urban-centric take on the lifestyle boutique. The Reed Space also hosts art exhibits by some of the most influential artists of this generation, including Andrew Sutherland and Florencio Zavala.

3. Depending on how many Flor Moradas you had at Hecho en Dumbo (or beers at MARK), you may want to stop at Daredevil Tattoo on Ludlow for some spontaneous body art. A studio on par with the famous Miami Ink, the guys at Daredevil are the most sophisticated at their craft. And whether it’s a “Te Amo Rosa”-labeled heart or the NYC skyline, we’ll help you finance your spur-of-the moment decision. With SCVNGR you get 25% off any tattoo over $100.

4. To ease off some of the adrenaline from your previous stop, end your tour at Deadly Dragon Soundsystem, which serves as NY’s reggaeholics record store haven. This venue is a force when it comes to reggae, carefully detailing every new trend within the movement, tracing its ska origins to the newest “riddims bumbling up from yard.” At Deadly Dragon, you can peruse over 150,000 pieces of vynil and acetate, and you automatically get a free reggae compilation with each purchase if you check in on SCVNGR. There’s only one thing we can say to that: qué de pinga.
