Nineteen years after Selena Quintanilla’s death, she is still at the forefront of our collective memories. In life, Selena was a barrier-breaking performer – a woman succeeding in the male-dominated world of Tejano; a Mexican-American who won the embrace of Mexican audiences; a Latina performer on the cusp of crossing into the mainstream of U.S. pop; a sex symbol whose beauty provided a refreshing break from Anglo-Saxon ideals. But in death, she has become something more than the sum of these parts. Beatified by the millions who continue to reflect on her life, music and legacy, for many she has become Santa Selena – the patron saint of Latino potential, both spiritual and commercial.
This year, in honor of her memory – and those who are keeping their Selena shrines going – I’ve rounded up some of the best Selena memorabilia on the internet. From nail art to jewelry to full-on recreations of her iconic outfits, these items are definitely on my wish list:
1. Selena “Supreme” Shirt
At this point, knock offs of Supreme’s logo tee are a dime a dozen, but this shirt speaks to me. And I guess I’m not the only one because only XS and XL sizes remain in stock. Get ’em while you can here.
2. Selena Votive Candles
You might light this velita and look to Selena for inspiration and guidance in: crossover success, dreaming about your love, the perfect cumbia twirl, rocking bras as tops. Get it here.
3. Selena Nail Decals
Can WAH Nails do this? I think not. Added bonus: these are only $6!! Get them here.
4. Vintage Selena Amor Prohibido Snapback
According to the vendor, this snapback is very #rare. I’m inclined to agree. Get it here.
5. Selena Purple Jumpsuit
Where has this been all my life/every Halloween?? The dollar value for this recreation of Selena’s iconic outfit is $120, but I would probably pay infinity dollars for this. I don’t even know why I’m telling you this exists because they’re only one left and I need to make it mine ahhhh. Check it out here.
