A Sneaker Huarache? Here’s the Latest Willy Chavarría x Adidas Collab

The collaboration between Chicano designer Willy Chavarría and Adidas continues to evolve, as the designer teases the release of a new sneaker-huarache hybrid in Puerto Rico this past weekend (August 3).
The Oaxaca Slip On by Willy Chavarría X Adidas is a black huarache sandal with a chunky sole and tread. In a video shared by Hypebeastkicks, the black sandals blend a traditional leather huarache from Mexico with a tactical chunky sole.
On the side of the sole appears a stamped Adidas Logo, along with “Willy Chavarría” in the back of the shoe. The interior features a holographic gold Adidas logo with “Willy Chavarría” placed in the center.
According to the same post, Chavarría says that the sneaker was inspired by traditional huarache sandals, and that the new design pays homage to his Mexican roots— a strong and recurring theme in Chavarria’s designs.
YouTuber Juan Berthau modeled the new shoes in a photoshoot by Marco Ovando, a photographer who has collaborated with Chavarria in the past.
The announcement of the Oaxaca sandal was announced at the Bad Bunny X Adidas exhibition On Sunday (August 3), where a collection of 148 Bad Bunny X Adidas sneakers are on display.
In an interview with Complex Magazine, Chavarría states “this incredible experience here in Puerto Rico is for the people… it’s not just an exclusive archive presentation for people in Hollywood or New York and the elite… and that’s incredible, that’s all him. And that’s the kind of work I like to do with Adidas too.”
Chavarría later joined Bad Bunny on stage at his concert at the Coliseo.
While the Oaxaca Slip On has been unveiled by Chavarria, no information on the launch date or availability has been confirmed.
