____________________________Do you want more cinema in your life? Look no further than a screening of the documentary “El Gigante” happening this Saturday, October 26 at 3 p.m. Mark your calendar for the showing of a film that captures the real struggle of fishermen and peasants against a hydroelectric power plant. For one year, filmmakers Bruno Federico and Consuelo Narravo followed this battle by documenting the protests of residents against the project called “El Quimbo.” Head to the screening to learn more and ask your own questions in a Q & A afterwards. That session will also feature an appearance from artist Carolina Caycedo who frequently focuses on communities in need fighting larger powers.

The Annenberg Space for Photography continues to give Los Angeles dose after dose of awesome photography and their upcoming show “The Power of Photography” surely won’t disappoint. The show highlights the 125th anniversary of the National Geographic, a magazine known for its seriously wicked, iconic photographs. Expect not only brain-melting-good photographs but cool exhibition details, too — like 12-foot-wide video walls. You’ll have to visit the exhibit to see for yourself. Witness work from photographers like Abelardo Morell, Joel Sartore and more. If you miss opening day on October 26, you get plenty of time to see the show until it closes April 27, 2014.
