LA Art Book Fair — The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA

Catalogues are like the glossy souvenirs you take home after seeing an awesome art show. Then you can brag you saw the show and point out your faves or flip through its beautiful pages on a lazy Sunday. But there’s plenty more art publications out there, like zines, being produced by some seriously creative individuals. Head over to the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA this weekend for a free Art Book Fair to learn more. The fair goes on from January 31 to February 2 and also includes talks like a panel on publishing practice in Mexico, taking place February 2 at 4 p.m. Start the festivities with the opening January 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Check out the website for more info: http://laartbookfair.net

Marco Ramirez ERRE — Museum of Latin American Art

As we’ve mentioned in earlier posts, Marco Ramirez ERRE loves tackling the big issues. He’s created work inspired by everywhere from a cemetery in Tijuana to the border between San Diego and Tijuana. He keeps the focus on Mexico for an upcoming show called “A Game of Deception, Of Oil, Soccer and Other Bets.” Head to the Museum of Latin American Art on January 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the opening reception and out more about the artist’s complex works. If you miss the opening, the show will stay up until July 13.
