Frida Kahlo: Her Photos — MOLAA

No amount of time could pass that would make artist Frida Kahlo’s work less interesting — or make her any less of a badass. If you love Kahlo as much as we do, the Museum of Latin American Art is offering a rare glimpse into a set of photographs that could give some intimate insight into the artist. “Frida Kahlo: Her Photos” show her love of photography, which she also used for her work. You can check out 200 of these images at the museum, split into sections like Diego’s Gaze and Friday’s love. Head to museum on Saturday, March 15 from 7:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. for the opening reception. Admission is $20 for non-members. The show will stay on view until June 8.

Paseo de los Melancólicos — LAXART

The name Paseo de los Melancólicos belongs to a path that led to Franco’s bunkers during World War II. That area has fascinated LA-based artist Patricia Fernández who has spoken with people who were part of this history. The artist has recreated these stories and the unique space in the gallery using everything from woodwork to painting. Fernández’s art is steeped in history but even if you didn’t know the story behind her works, her art still draws you in aesthetically. Head to the opening reception Saturday, March 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to see the the work for yourself.
