CaminArte – Mariachi Plaza

The fever of the art party is spreading to all parts of Los Angeles and this weekend Boyle Heights will add to the fun. Visit Mariachi Plaza this Friday, June 14 for CaminArte, an event that welcomes food, music and art lovers to one place for practically a whole day. From 3 to 11 p.m., artists will display their goods while live music fills the air, including a 7 p.m. performance from Profesor Galactico. You can also head to Espacio 1839 for an art exhibit and panel on saving the Wyvernwood community. Admission is free and the event is open to all ages, making this quite the art fiesta.

Exit Down the Rabbit Hole – Flower Pepper Gallery

This weekend might be the perfect time to meet a bunny named Felipe. Or at least a creature that looks kind of like a bunny. Mexican artist Juan Muniz created the character – a little cartoon that seems to wear a bunny suit and holds up a smiley face drawing to his face – and named him after his younger brother who passed away. This Saturday, June 15th you can see Felipe and more of Muniz’s art in a solo show at Flower Pepper Gallery. One of the artist’s biggest mantras is the phrase “say it simple, say it deep,” making his art approachable and interesting. The opening reception takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and if you get there early and stand amongst the first 50 people, you can take home a print.

Digital Media Program’s Student Art Exhibition – Self Help Graphics

Los Angeles is a great place to get young minds thinking about art and expressing themselves visually. To meet that goal, The Cal Arts Community Arts Partnership works to get young ones in the Arts, teaching 6 to 18 year olds through after-school programs. Head to Self Help Graphics this Tuesday, June 11 to support the kiddos and their talent from 5 to 7 p.m. The students have trained in visual and digital art and mark the end of the school year with this show. Admission is free so bring the whole familia – especially your hermanito/a.
