After the Object

The work of six Mexican artists are brought together in a show closing soon on July 31st at Y gallery. ‘After the Object’ is a theme attempting to show works that push the viewer to consider the process and transformation and art object undergoes before and after its arrival at an exhibition site. Marela Zacarias, who recently created a sculptural mural at the Brooklyn Museum, has a piece in the show entitled ‘Slowly He Moves,’ an interpretation of the swing using familiar and unfamiliar characteristics. Other artists in ‘After the Object’ include Mauricio Limón, Quirarte + Ornelas, Omar Rodriguez-Graham and Moza Saracho. Part of sales from the exhibit benefit Project Paz, an organization that promotes peace and raises awareness for the alarming state of affairs in Juarez, Mexico. Don’t forget the show closes on Wednesday, July 31st so hurry on to LES to catch some contemporary work from Mexican artists.
