___________________________La Usurpadora
This Tuesday, January 7th, the Clemente begins the new year with a group show curated by Marcel Alcalá. The exhibit takes inspiration from a telenovela called ‘La Usurpadora’ where twin sisters separated at birth end up falling in love with the same man later on in life. Six multimedia artists show work that involve “feelings deceptive “realness” the fetishization of the object digital bodies y pues puros pendejas.” Here is a video made by the curator of the exhibit:

Clemente is open from 3:30pm to 7pm every day. The opening is from 6 to 8 pm this Tuesday, January 7th.

Miguel Ovalle: Encryption
Ovalle, who had a show earlier last year at Superchief Gallery, is now having his first solo show in Chelsea at ArtNowNY. He brings a multimedia twist to the art experience in what is popularly called “immersive art.” Blending street art, architecture, graphic art, fashion and video, Ovalle is truly multimedia and brings complexity to his art through his layering of medium. The opening is Thursday, January 9th from 6 to 9pm and there will be music, interactive performance and installations. RSVP on the Facebook event here.

Portals and Interventions
The Bronx Art Space has an opening Wednesday, January 8th with work from artists Vidal Centeno, Xavier Figueroa, Rosemarie Fiore and Marita Ibanez. Each artist has a specific style. Centeno makes objects that fracture light creating a constant change in pattern. Fiore, a very interesting artist, converts everyday objects like lawnmowers and amusement park rides into painting machines that create large-scale paintings. Peruvian artist Marita Ibanez creates colorful wall constructions that use 3D renderings of Peruvian architecture. Lastly, Xavier Figueroa uses photographs to recreate stage-like settings of memories in urban landscape. The opening is Wednesday from 6 to 9pm in the Bronx!
