Latin pop star Thalía may have been born Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda, but over the course of a 40-year career in the entertainment industry, she has been known by a lot more names. During a fun video she posted on Instagram, the “Piel Morena” singer ran through a few of those monikers she’s been called, including the names of some of the characters she’s played in a few telenovelas from the late 1980s and 90s.
“That’s what they call me,” Thalía commented on the video, along with a goofy-face emoji and two hearts.
The video was synced with the 2007 song “That’s Not My Name” by British duo The Ting Tings. The first clip features Thalía as the title character from the 1994 telenovela Marimar. On the show, she plays a poor girl who lives with her parents and falls in love with a wealthy ranch owner. The series ran for seven months and 150 episodes.
Next, a clip of Thalía as the title character from the 1995 telenovela María la del Barrio is shown. In that series, she plays a young woman living on the outskirts of Mexico City who moves in with a wealthy family after her godmother dies. María la del Barrio ran for eight months and 90 episodes.
The other telenovela characters represented in the video are her title character from the 1999 series Rosalinda; her title character from the 1992 series María Mercedes; and her character Beatriz Villanueva Contreras from the 1987 series Quinceañera.
Along with the names of her telenovela characters, Thalía includes other names she has been called over the years, including Lady T, Ariadna, Diva, Yuyita, Queen of Latin Pop, and, of course, Mamá, which is exclusive to her daughter Sabrina and son Matthew.
