Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, received an earful of boos on Thursday’s (February 16) episode during the topic of the late Raquel Welch and her status as a sex symbol in Hollywood.

Welch, who died on Wednesday (February 15) at 82, was best known for her roles in the 1966 sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage and for her small role as a cavewoman in the 1966 adventure-fantasy film One Million Years B.C.

“You know, they don’t make any sex symbols like that [anymore],” Behar said. “I don’t know any present [sex symbols].”

Hostin jumped in and said, “Well, Kim Kardashian is kind of a sex symbol.” Cue the loud boos from the audience, which seemed to take Sunny Hostin aback. Hostin playfully put her hand to her heart and said the audience was turning on her.

After Hostin suggested Kardashian was Welch’s modern-day equal in terms of sexuality, co-host Whoopi Goldberg added, “That’s not even, you can’t even put them in the same … I’m moving on.”

Social media users weren’t much kinder to Hostin once word got out that she mentioned Kardashian as a sex symbol in the same conversation as Welch.

One user thought the boos toward Hostin were warranted. “She deserved to get boo’d,” one comment read.

Others considered Welch in a different category than Kardashian regarding sex appeal. “Racquet Welch epitomized glamour and elegance,” a Twitter user wrote. “[Kim Kardashian] not so much.”

The consensus online seemingly was that Hostin’s take was a bad one. “No comparison,” another Twitter user posted. “Ms. Welch is a goddess and a star.”
