Say goodbye to your secret Hulu appointments with Marc, Amanda and Wilhelmina: Ugly Betty has been canceled. According to EW’s The Ausiello Files, sucky ratings have turned this into the show’s last season. And just when Betty discovered hair products!
Nevertheless, while it’s a loss for Hispanic actors (the show has America Ferrera, Ana Ortiz and Tony Plana in its main cast), it’s a gain for fans of good TV: There’s no denying that the facepalm-inducing campy show was just eating up good television real estate. It was cutesy and endearing for five episodes, and afterward I just wanted Amanda to add some arsenic seasoning to Betty’s rice. Is there any way ABC could extend Modern Family to an hour, then? I need more Glooooria (the surprisingly hilarious Sofía Vergara) and Mitchell in my life.
The network has reduced the episode count for this season to 20 from an original 22, but producer Silvio Horta explains that they’ve been graced with enough time to come up with a series finale. Does this mean Betty is hooking up with Mr. Mode Boss and getting an express makeover, à la Yo Soy Betty, La Fea?
