Vive Latino goes retro …in a bad way

Mexico City’s huge annual mega-festival turns 10 this year, and they’ve just announced the lineup after much anticipation. …and we’re severely underwhelmed, to say the very least.  Known for showcasing a wide range of bands from all over Latin America, both large and small, Vive is generally at the forefront of cool cosmopolatino music.  But not so much this year…

We were planning on going, and heard rumors about Soda Stereo performing, but alas, that’s not happening.  We’d be down to catch Babasónicos and Quiero Club, as well as a handful of the other groups, but I dunno, things are looking waaay too old school for our liking.  Los Lobos, REALLY?  Los Piojos?!?!?! WTF.  Jarabe de Palo?!?!?!? Irrelevent.  Santa Sabina and Angeles del Infierno??? Woah.  Maybe they’re trying to cover all the bands who’ve played over the last decade or somethin’, but we’re not feeling it.

Time to stop scouring flights to el DF, and start figuring out Coachella plans… that’s gonna be much better!

Here’s the official lineup, for your perusal… let us know what YOU think!!!
