Being a celebrity doesn’t give you the right to just kiss anyone you want. This is a lesson Christian Nodal is learning the hard way after a viral video showed him trying to kiss a fan asking for a photo.
It all starts very innocently, with the fan standing next to him and posing for a picture, as a friend tells Nodal how much this particular fan appreciates him. “Ella dice que eres el amor de su vida, ¿sabías?” can be heard in Spanish, but even if the appreciation that this fan considers Nodal the love of her life was true, that doesn’t in any way excuse what he did next – turn around and try to kiss her, repeatedly.
The fan’s reaction is immediate, she turns her head and moves away, looking confused, even as Nodal keeps trying to kiss her. It’s not a good look for the singer, particularly at a moment where he’s already embroiled in a separate – if less important controversy. The last few days have, after all, seen Nodal and J Balvin beefing with each other on social media over their hairstyles.
But similar hairstyles are the least of Nodal’s problems now, as the proof of his lack of respect for other people’s boundaries is everywhere. Because let’s be clear, being a fan of someone, asking for a picture, or even an autograph, doesn’t mean you are giving consent to being touched or kissed. And Nodal shouldn’t have assumed that a comment by someone else meant this fan would welcome his kiss.
Christian Nodal should have just asked, or better yet, respected her boundaries. Perhaps then he would have avoided the backslash he’s getting now, and we could all still be talking about whether he and J Balvin look alike or not.
