Watch 11-Year-Old Karla Ortiz’s DNC Speech That Had the Crowd in Tears

Young Karla Ortiz wowed the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia during the first night of the Democratic National Convention. While the elementary schooler from Las Vegas shared her fear of her parents being deported because of their undocumented status, DNC delegates were visibly moved with many wiping away tears.

“On most days I am scared. I’m scared that at any moment my mom and my dad will be forced to leave. And I wonder what if I come home and I find it empty?” she said with her mom Francisca by her side. She’s only eleven years old, but Karla’s short speech ended with an emotional punch. Joining hands with her mom and with their arms held high in the air, the two chanted: “Hillary Clinton for president! Juntos se puede!”
